What is TKD Samurais?
This is our unique Junior Taekwon-Do programme for children aged between 8-11 years of age. This is the next step from TKD Kubz and introduces your child fully to the Martial Art of Taekwon-Do. However, as with all things at MHF we focus on “Fit for Purpose” and as we are still developing young children, the core themes of; Focus, Communication and Inspirational Discipline are paramount. As such, our unique Magic Triangle is still very much at the core of all our teaching.
They will study all the disciplines involved:
Patterns
A sequence of prearranged moves performed against an imaginary opponent(s). There is new patterns at each different grade level.
Sparring
Taekwon-Do sporting event, designed to demonstrate the students control and precision through physical touch contact against a real opponent for points. The winner of the bout is the player who has scored the most points.
Power Breaking
The method of breaking boards to demonstrate ones power and accuracy of various different techniques.
Special Technique
When different techniques are performed at different heights and in different sequences. An example would be kicking a pad/board at 2.5m high or executing 3/4 techniques in the air before landing.
School Defence
Non-Trauma Self-Defence practice. Teaching the students to keep themselves safe whilst not causing trauma to an opponent.
However, like in Kubz, our Samurais programme teaches more than just Martial Arts. It incorporates important life skills for the children to develop including; effective communication skills, building confidence, instilling discipline, teamwork and leadership, anti-bullying methods, stranger awareness and safety skills, how to lead a healthy and active lifestyle and the differences between right and wrong.
The programmes also ensures that the children understand the importance of helping-out at home. They are given ‘Task Sheets which they must have completed in order to grade, showing the good things they have been working on outwith their Taekwon-Do classes.
Like our Kubz programme, the Samurais has a great reward system in place. At MHF, we like to recognise our students who go above and beyond for the greater good and achieve things outwith their Taekwon-Do training as well. We have a major focus on developing these young boys and girls into becoming well-rounded individuals, prepared to tackle some of the challenges that life will face them with.
The most important element we look to develop in our students is always “Effort and Attitude”! Physical ability is important, but not the number one priority. The key is having a strong mind and a strong heart.
Most important is Effort and Attitude!
The Samurais programme follows the same grading structure as adult Taekwon-Do:
- White Belt
- Yellow Belt
- Green Belt
- Blue Belt
- Red Belt
- Black Belt
There is also the opportunity for children to participate in the sporting element of the Martial Art. There is annual competitions that the students can enter, if they choose to, allowing them to explore their competitive side and gain new experience against other students from other clubs. Sport is great for developing self belief and pushes the students a little out of their comfort zone, challenging them and allowing them to grow as individuals.
The children will have fun, learn new skills and meet new friends. There is always a friendly atmosphere in all our classes and our Instructors are qualified to the highest level, PVG checked and insured. They always put the children’s safety first to ensure they are looked after and can get the most out of their training.
